Project Overview

Client's Industry: Mentorship and Career Development
Project Duration: 3 Month

Background

Mentorgain, a platform dedicated to mentorship and career re-entry, embarked on a transformative journey to elevate its online presence. As the lead UX designer, my role was to enhance user experience, making the platform more user-friendly and visually appealing

Scope of Work

The initial scope aimed to comprehensively revamp the website, focusing on improving user experience and visual appeal. The project began with a broad goal of creating a modern and engaging platform without specific insights into user challenges.

Client Needs

  • Key client needs included:

  • Enhanced user engagement through improved website traffic.

  • Improved usability for a seamless user experience.

  • Boosted conversions through increased member sign-ups.

The Problem

Initial User Research

Starting out,

Acknowledging the necessity for direct input, I opted to circulate a comprehensive email communication utilizing the Mailmodo platform. The communication was strategically designed to encompass our existing and prospective mentees as well as mentors. Emphasizing precision, distinct sets of inquiries were formulated for mentees and mentors, aiming to gain a nuanced understanding of their respective needs. The response was overwhelming!

As our team began sorting through all the feedback, it was like a lightbulb moment. The problems we thought users might be facing were exactly what they were actually struggling with in real life. It was a real eye-opener and set the stage for how we approached the whole project.

Results of User Research

Another key insight was the desire for personalized mentorship experiences and better mobile responsiveness. Our users didn't just want generic advice; they craved mentorship that felt tailored to their unique situations and goals. Plus, many were frequently accessing the site via mobile devices, so ensuring a seamless mobile experience was essential. These findings really shaped our approach, pushing us to create a more personalized, mobile-friendly platform that truly resonated with our users' needs.

Agile Approach

Design Process

After identifying usability issues and specific pain points, I implemented an agile design process. Constantly revisiting project goals and potential solutions, I initiated brainstorming and ideation. Using mind maps, mood boards, and sketches, I presented various design solutions to the client, illustrating how my approach could bring about a more user-friendly experience. I employed the Eisenhower Matrix, a powerful tool for prioritizing tasks based on their urgency and importance.

Competative Analysis

A thorough analysis of competitor platforms identified best practices and gaps in the market that Mentorgain.com could capitalise on.

Ideation and Selecting a final design

Design Rationale

The specific choices of color were influenced by the brand's association with blue. According to the client, blue symbolizes professionalism, stability, inspiration, or wisdom. Sticking to the blue color palette was a deliberate decision to maintain the brand's identity and convey these positive attributes.

Following ideation sessions and user feedback analysis, the client meticulously selected the final design. The process involved collaborative brainstorming, incorporating user insights to align design elements with project objectives. The chosen design strikes a balance between creativity, user preferences, and overarching goals, marking a significant step in refining Mentorgain.com's user experience.
